SONIA BEAUCHESNE
My artistic approach to contemporary jewelry is rooted in an exploration of territory, both geographic and intimate, where the jewelry transcends its simple physical definition to encompass personal, emotional, and symbolic dimensions. It becomes a space of inner resonance, blending memories, emotions, and experiences.
Each piece constitutes a personal map, translating a particular memory related to a real and singular environment. I engage in varied creations, ranging from solo jewelry pieces to installations, as well as artist’s books, exploring the medium by opening it up to new propositions.
My creative process is based on an intuitive and experimental approach. I place great importance on technological innovation while preserving artisanal techniques. I do not limit myself to any particular material or method, seeking to juxtapose different materials and techniques to reveal their aesthetics or symbolism, such as using pearls with steel or employing a laser cutter on enamel, for example.
I favor the use of copper, steel, and repurposed materials, while deliberately limiting the use of precious metals, motivated by environmental concerns that influence my work.
Textures play a central role in my work, and surface treatment of the jewelry is a constant source of inspiration. I achieve these textures through techniques such as roller printing, computer-assisted engraving, and laser cutting. I also experiment with finishes like spray painting, thermoplastic powder, or crystallized enamel, which add plastic qualities to my pieces.
